I’m just getting over another bout of Covid and am dealing with a very hormonal tween. Consequently I’ve begun to notice an atmosphere in the house, just a general negative vibe and honestly goddesses I’m not here for it. Sickness often lingers after you recover and I find airing the house and giving it a good cleaning to be the easiest way to clear it but this time it wasn’t enough.

I think having a pre-menstrual tween is really changing the energy not to mention my peri-menopausal state. So I decided to call on my ancestors, women who’ve all navigated this path before me, to help me cleanse and restore the calm and peaceful energy in my home. The blessing I used was a simple one and I’m going to share how to do it because it worked! My house feels lighter somehow, my tween is less argumentative and I’m so much more relaxed.

You will need Palo Santo wood and a lighter. Sage will also work, it’s entirely down to your preference, I like the smell of Palo Santo.

Light the end of the wood until it starts to smoke and wave the smoke around the room. I find starting in one corner and then moving around in decreasing circles to be most effective. While working around the room, recite the following:

“I call upon my ancestors, those who watch over and protect me to help me today. I humbly ask that you cleanse and protect my home and restore the peace. May your wisdom guide my hand and mind through this difficult time.”

It doesn’t have to be exact, after all the intention is the most important part. Once you’ve waved the smoke around the rooms leave the wood burning like incense in an appropriate heat-proof holder. When I started, I immediately felt an overwhelming sense of peace and of being in the presence of a lot of people. I also got the impression that most of them weren’t fans of the 90s grunge I had playing 🤣

Weirdly my dog started reacting to things I couldn’t see, he wasn’t scared but he was definitely curious about something behind me as I was moving around the house. The sceptic in me says it’s just a symbolic act that improved things because I believed it would. The believer in me says the generations of women who came before me joined me to banish the negativity and shared their wisdom to help me and the tween communicate better. My dog says next time they visit he’d appreciate it if they brought snaccos.
